Compliance & Regulatory Information

Operating to the standards our clients, partners and regulators expect.

Westshield Insurance Company is committed to transparent, accountable and properly regulated operation. This page sets out how we approach licensing, anti-money laundering controls, data protection and complaints handling — including the additional standards that apply to our gold, diamond and other high-value goods policies.

Licensing & Regulation

Westshield Insurance Company is licensed and regulated to underwrite insurance business in Sierra Leone. Our registration details, including our license number, are published in the footer of every page on this site. We maintain the solvency, reporting and conduct standards our regulator requires, and we welcome verification of our registration by any client, partner or authority.

Anti-Money Laundering & Know Your Customer (AML/KYC)

As an insurer handling high-value transactions — including gold and diamond cover — Westshield Insurance Company applies anti-money laundering and know-your-customer controls in line with international standards, to protect our clients and the integrity of the markets we serve.

  • Identity verification for all policyholders and beneficiaries before cover is issued
  • Source-of-funds and source-of-wealth checks for high-value gold, diamond and international policies
  • Ongoing monitoring of policies and claims for unusual or suspicious activity
  • Mandatory reporting of suspicious transactions to the relevant authorities, in line with Sierra Leone's AML legislation

Data Protection & Privacy

We collect and use personal and business information only to assess risk, administer policies and handle claims. Client records are held securely, access is restricted to authorised staff, and information is never sold to third parties. Policyholders may request a copy of the personal data we hold on them, or ask us to correct inaccurate records, by contacting us directly.

Complaints Handling Procedure

We aim to resolve every concern quickly and fairly. If you are ever unhappy with a policy, a claim decision, or our service, here is how we handle it:

Submit Your Complaint

Contact us by phone, email or the form on this site with the details of your concern.

Acknowledgement

We confirm receipt of your complaint and give you a named contact within 2 business days.

Investigation

Your complaint is reviewed against your policy terms and the facts of the case.

Resolution

We respond in writing with our decision and, where applicable, next steps or your right to escalate.

Export & Trade Compliance

Where cover involves gold, diamonds or other regulated commodities, we work alongside — never in place of — proper export compliance. See our High-Value Goods section for how Kimberley Process certification, mineral export licensing and customs documentation are handled alongside your policy.
